ABOUT

Stories for Freedom is an evening of performance poetry, jazz and traditional live music, fine arts and graphic design, all to tell the story of Macassar - the township behind the bomb factory.

Join poet Siphokazi Jonas, the Sound of the Ground band and other artsits, for a journey into the heart and life of Macassar township, founded more than 300 years ago by Indonesian activist Shekh Yusuf.

Apartheid managed to cut the community off from the rest of the city by enclosing it with a national road, bomb factory, sandmine and nature reserve. 

But on Reconciliation Day, we will tell our stories.

Join us as we journey from banishment towards freedom. 

And discover your own liberty too.
